Camouflage
– a device or stratagem used for concealment by some means of alteration or obscurity, to hide, to disguise or deceive…
What does paradise look like? I collect things; images, objects, ideas, materials, thoughts, sounds, lies, histories and trinkets. I collect them; I keep them, organise and arrange them. I make my own playground and use these things to construct new poetic moments of intuition and grace. The works in this exhibition are examples of this, each created through a process of combing found images with fabric, to make new silhouettes of fancy and imagination. The original images are transformed and altered, disguised by patterns and textures, however this process of camouflage is also idiosyncratic and whimsical given that these new forms, far from avoiding observation or detection, become sites for inquiry and examination. Each image is a playground to explore… a new possible paradise.
